CMFT Case Study

The Brief

In 2012 CNS were approached by Lend Lease FM working on behalf of the Trust at the MRI to design, supply and install a Wi-Fi system within the new build, Lend Lease FM wanted a cost-effective structured cabling system capable of supporting an eventual site wide Wi-Fi infrastructure. Lend Lease FM appointed CNS as nominated and preferred installer due to our Achilles Building confidence accreditation coupled with our site knowledge and experience working with NHS Trusts, Lend Lease felt CNS were best placed to carry out this project.

The Project

The project consisted of carrying out site wireless surveys in all building across the campus, once the surveys were complete this enabled us to assist with the design element which was completed and presented to the Trust for approval, once approval was given we had the responsibility to assign a Cisco reseller partner to procure all the Cisco equipment, this was carried out by our projects team with minimum fuss and delivered to site in stages to tie in with the Phased contracts of the project, the cabling element of this project has consisted of CNS supplying 4 x teams of cabling Installation engineers to install a Brand Rex Cat6 infrastructure to over 1,000 locations across the sites new builds.

CNS have successfully installed and signed off Phases 1 & 2 of this project and presented Lend Lease FM with a full set of As fitted CAD drawings and 4 x copies of O&M manuals to be distributed to the Trust, Catalyst and Sodexo, the project was carried out in time and to budget and most importantly to specification, the preferred material suppliers for the cabling solution was Brand Rex and the Wi-Fi infrastructure was up to date Cisco products.

Phases 1 & 2 of the Wi-Fi project were completed by the end of April 2013, it was announced in Sept 2012 that CNS have also been awarded the 3rd phase contract to install Wi-Fi to the rest of the Campus – works due to commence February 2014.

Conclusion (Phases 1&2)

  • Cost effective high bandwidth to cope with user demands.
  • Environmentally friendly infrastructure.
  • Infrastructure implemented with minimum disruption to a very busy campus.
