Barnsley NHS foundation Trust is a 500+ bed hospital and was built in the 1970s and serves a population of over a quarter of a million people in the Barnsley area. Today, it continues to provide a full range of district hospital services to the local community and surrounding area. These included emergency department services, outpatient clinics, inpatient services, and maternity and children’s services.

Complete Network Services were appointed as preferred cabling contractor in 2012 and have since established a great working relationship with the Trust IT and Estates departments on site.

What we cover on site

  • All new Voice, Data and Fibre optical cabling installations.
  • Moves, adds and changes to the Voice network.
  • Site wide Wi-Fi surveying, cabling infrastructure and Installation of Cisco WAP devices.
  • Maintenance of over 8,000 structured cabling outlets and CW1308 cabling outlets.
  • Maintenance of Traditional Fibre cabling infrastructure.
  • Maintenance of site wide Voice back bone cabling.

Having worked on site since 2012, CNS operatives have carried out many projects from day to day structured cabling installs (small works) to large scale cabling installations as part of scheme works carried out on site.

The Brief

Barnsley NHS – Wi-Fi Project
CNS were appointed as main site incumbent to propose a cabling solution for the implementation of Wi-Fi services within all buildings on the campus, working with the Trust IT department we were approached to assist in the cabling design element to ensure adequate amounts of cables are installed to location in accordance to the Wireless surveys carried out by the Trust.

The Project

To date CNS engineers have carried out the installation of Wireless network points across the campus, many of which have ran through the under-croft service area of the hospital, CNS engineers have as part of this project deployed and install all Cisco WAP’s.

  1. Installation of a Krone Cat6 structured cabling system Installation .
  2. Cat6 cable termination and testing.
  3. Project management which included:
  • Labour Control.
  • Health & Safety Coordination, Risk Assessment and Method Statement.
  • On site meetings.
  • Safe site storage.
  • Material logistics.
  • Access & Plant.
  • Waste management control.
  1. Working at heights, confined space & Asbestos Awareness (trained operatives).
  2. Full comprehensive documentation and “as fitted” CAD drawings.

Phase 1 of this Wi-Fi installation is now complete with Phase 2 due to start February 2014 for duration of 5 weeks.
